Children and Young People

SM@SH

Ages 2-10 years
9:30
2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th Sunday

In January 2014 we launched our junior church known as ‘SM@SH’ (St. Mary’s at the Scout Hut). SM@SH runs every Sunday except the first of the month when we have an all age service in the church. Each week a different combination of leaders run fun activities for the children which include: crafts, games, songs, stories and interactive prayer. The SM@SH team follow a programme based on the scripture Union material known as ‘Roots’ which guides the children through important Christian beliefs and values in a safe and exciting environment. The children are a treasured part of the church and offer such a valuable element to St. Mary’s; they share each week with the adult congregation what they’ve discovered in SM@SH about God.  SM@SH currently caters for children aged 2 – 10years.

The Rock

Ages 10-13 years
9:30
2nd & 4th Sundays

The Rock has been running since September 2016 and has become well known among the congregation for eating yummy treats. However there is much more to the rock than simply eating yummy treats; we have spent time looking at a variety of different topics that relate well to the young people in our group. We believe that during this part of life it’s really important to allow the young people to search and discover new things that are relevant to them whilst still having the guidance of adults. Our mornings can consist of a variety of activities such as frisbee, art, games of 3D Snakes and Ladders; challenges and many other things. We meet during the service after the first hymn and join the congregation again for communion once a month. The Sundays that we choose not to meet are Sundays in which we hope to involve our young people in the usual Sunday services by allowing them to welcome people as they arrive or present a reading. We believe that these young people are an important and valuable asset to our congregation. For any further information please contact us.

Horizon

Ages 13+ years
9:30
2nd & 4th Sundays

Horizon has been running since September 2016 and has become a valuable part of those who attend; both adults and young people. It originally was run once a month but due to it’s success Horizon now runs twice a month. It nearly always begins with a tasty breakfast; often involving croissants or pain au chocolat. Our hope for Horizon is that it is a safe place to discuss and discover more about ourselves and our faith and how they work together. We aim to make the group relevant to those who attend. We join the congregation again for communion once a month. The Sundays that we choose not to meet are Sundays in which we hope to involve our young people in the usual Sunday services. We believe that these young people are an important and valuable asset to our congregation. For many further information please contact us.
